We all wear many hats, we call those our roles in life. As mothers we'll also have many subroles in which I'm sure you're all familiar with. Today I'm going to talk about how to set goals for each role you play and this will also take care of any subroles you have such as your kids' taxi driver, nurse, and short-order cook, to name a few. This talk will also help you take off a hat or two because too many roles muddles our focus and we become mediocre in a lot of things instead of masters of few.
What roles do you play?
Examples might be: Mother, Writer, Wife, Sister, Friend, Mentor, Leader, Artist...and so on.
On a piece of paper write your roles you play and a vision for each. This doesn't have to be lengthy, but some details are a good thing. What kind of mother do you want to be? What is your vision you have for being your children's mother and what do you want your children to say about you? How about you as a sister, a wife, mentor? Don't forget your personal goal you are pursuing which will fall under a role, too. What is your vision for each role? Can you see how understanding each role and having goals for each, can keep you on track with a clear vision and focus? Everything you do will have purpose and intent. Keep these goals in your January Goal section in your planners as a reminder and statement of intent as you begin the new year. This will keep the rest of your planning headed in the right direction. We aren't just planning our days, we are planning our lives!
We all need a plan or we are going to be living very mediocre lives. Are you headed in the right direction? Do you have a vision for your life? Defining each role helps break it down.
What kind of roles do you play and what hat or two could you toss to the wayside to help improve your life?
